One Dog At A Time
Our dogs come to us from animal rescue organizations. They are evaluated before entering into the program for many things including temperament, small prey aggression, motivation and drive.
The dogs come to school every day where they are groomed and learn cues from our student trainers. If the dog is not living in a residential home they go home with our volunteer “puppy raisers” after a day of training at Kids and Canines.
Our training program begins with basic obedience and progresses to more advance cues and behaviors. We train every dog in our program to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification.
While in training they also serve in a therapeutic role at local senior residence centers, schools, and in the community before graduating to a working life.
During the training cycle of one dog they can provide tail wags, gentle listening skills and unconditional love to more than 350 people, brightening their day.
