This is a 6-week long class that meets once per week. Weeks 1-5 will be spent on actually practicing behaviors that will help put your dog on the path to becoming certified as a canine good citizen. Week 6 will be taking the test itself that may earn your dog the title of CGC and certifies them as a canine good citizen.
This is a two-part program that focuses on responsible dog ownership and certifies dogs that have the training and behaviors needed to be reliable, we-behaved members of their families and communities. Earning the title means your dog is under good control and is safe around people and other dogs.
The test is noncompetitive and dogs are not required to perform with the same precision that is required in formal obedience. Dogs that pass all 10 items of the test, including purebreds and mixed breeds, are listed in the CGC records at the American Kennel Club. Owners of dogs that pass all 10 items of the test may order an official certificate from the American Kennel Club.
What to bring to class:
- Proof of vaccines (first class only)
- Your dog on a flat nylon or leather collar and a regular leash (NON retractable)
- A comfortable mat, towel or small blanket for your dog to lie on
- You may bring small, moist training treats for the first 5 classes if your dog still needs them however, treats may NOT be brought to class 6 as they may not be used during the test itself.
