This is a 6-week long class that meets once per week for dogs over 6 months of age.
We will build on the very basic skills like sit, down, stand and come by adding duration and distractions. Good house manners and impulse control issues will continue to be emphasized, as in Puppy Kindergarten, but with more complex behaviors such as Leave It and The distraction game.
You will learn games to keep your dog mentally as well as physically stimulated. This class also covers learning techniques to help your training become more successful, how to properly introduce dogs to other dogs and people, and how to recognize the signs of stress your dog may be exhibiting.
Along with further developing the foundation skills, you will also be taught more complex behaviors such as stay, leave it, take it, drop it, touch, settle and go to your mat (place). We will also be working on behaviors to help prepare your dog to be ready for the AKC Canine Good Citizen class.
We require proof that your dog is up to date on all his core vaccinations. This includes Bordetella (Kennel Cough) and the new strain of flu vaccine called H3N2 or Bivalent.
What to bring to class:
- Proof of vaccines (first class only)
- Your dog on a flat nylon or leather collar and a regular leash (NON retractable)
- Plenty of tiny, soft and moist treats (about the size of your fingernail)
- A comfortable mat, towel or small blanket for your dog to lie on
